To promote training initiatives (capacity building and education) using the Santo Anastácio Reservoir (ASA) as a practical site for teaching and research in water resources and related fields.
Justification and Context
Sustainable Water Resources Management:
A pressing challenge, especially in the context of climate change. There is a clear need to train qualified professionals and to foster the development of key foundations for the environmental restoration of the Santo Anastácio Reservoir (ASA) area.
SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation:
Directly aligned with the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The initiative supports the learning objectives established for achieving this SDG (UNESCO, 2017).
Climate Change:
The region is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including reduced water availability. The initiative enables extension projects that provide education and training in water management, as well as in adaptation and mitigation strategies to address these impacts.
An interdisciplinary and hands-on approach, grounded in the principles of environmental education and the sustainable management of water resources.
Project Pillars
Professional Training:
Hands-on training and capacity building for students and professionals, preparing them to address the challenges of water resources management.
Education and Awareness:
Promote environmental education and raise awareness about the importance of water resource preservation among the academic and local communities.
Sustainability and Innovation:
Foster applied research and innovation in sustainable water management practices.
The implementation may serve as an effective and well-founded response to the identified challenges. By utilizing the Santo Anastácio Reservoir (ASA) as an educational and research resource, the project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to the training of qualified professionals and to raising public awareness about the importance of sustainable water resources management.
